Migrated registrations

Security interests recorded on 23 Commonwealth, state and territory registers were transferred to the PPS Register in time for the PPS Register commencement on 30 January 2012.

The registers include the Australian Security and Investments Commission’s Register of Company Charges, the Australian Register of Ships, the Fisheries Register, state and territory bills of sale registers, and the state and territory registers of encumbered vehicles. More than 4.7 million registrations were migrated to the PPS Register before its commencement.

Some registrations may not have been migrated either because the security interests are not registrable on the PPS Register, the security interests were no longer in force, or because they were short term security interests.

Transitional registers

The registers from which the migrated data came are referred by the PPS legislation as "transitional registers." You can view the list of transitional registers on the transitional registers page. These registers are now closed, and their contact details for searching of historic information are available on the transitional registers page.

There is more detailed information about transitional security interests, including migrated security interests, in the transitional provisions information sheet.

Find and claim process

A find and claim process was developed to assist secured parties to manage their migrated registrations after the commencement of PPS.

The find and claim process allows secured parties to:

  • search an online catalogue for secured party groups that have been created through the migration process, and
  • transfer the registrations from that migrated secured party group to a new secured party group they have created to manage their registrations in the PPS Register.

In order to access the find and claim functionality in the PPS Register, you will need to have created an account and requested access to find and claim. More information on this process is available in the ‘How to apply for find and claim’ fact sheet.

Secured party groups

The PPS Register uses secured party groups to identify secured parties in the register and to assist secured parties to manage their registrations. By using a secured party group, a secured party only needs to enter its details once, rather than each time it creates a registration in the register.
