What are the steps in the registration process?

There are six steps in the registration process and each one has an icon to identify it in the PPS Register.

The six steps are:

What you will need

There are four kinds of information that you will need to make the registration:

  1. secured party details
  2. collateral details
  3. grantor details (if applicable)
  4. method of payment  (for casual users - credit card)

Please note that all details entered in a registration must be in accordance with the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) and the Personal Property Securities Regulations 2010.

The PPS Act and the PPS Regulations set out rules about how you identify secured parties and grantors, depending on whether they are an individual, company, or another type of organisation, as well as rules about how you describe the collateral. If your registration does not meet these rules, you risk your registration not being effective.

Do I need to set up an account to register?

No, you don’t have to set up an account. You may create registrations in the PPS Register as an account customer or a casual user.

If you would like to become an account customer, you may create your account online in the PPS Register. You will only be able to select pay as you go or pre-pay as your payment options. If you wish to operate a credit account, you will need to apply for credit.

If you have an account, and you wish transactions to be charged through the account, make sure you are logged in before you commence a registration.

If you are a  to record the details of secured parties so their details do not need to be entered every time a registration is created. A secured party group can consist of one or more secured parties (either individuals or organisations). Each secured party group is assigned a number by the PPS Register. It is this secured party group number that you will need to be able to commence creating a registration.

Learn more about secured party groups by viewing the creating a secured party group tutorial .

What else do I need to get started?

Once you have a secured party group number and you have worked out how to pay for your registration, you can commence making a registration.

It is important to read the PPS Register Conditions of Use.

Types of registrations

There are two types of registrations: new registrations and existing registrations.

1. New registrations

There are two options for new registrations:

  • create a new registration or
  • finalise a pending registration.

Once you commence making a registration you can finish it in the same session or you can save it as ‘pending’ and return at a later time to complete it. The ‘finalise a pending registration’ activity means you can complete your ‘pending’ registration in a subsequent session on the PPS Register.

Once you have completed your registration, a confirmation page will open which contains a brief summary of the new registration and a link to detailed registration information.

Two notifications will be sent to the secured party group address for service:

  • a token for this particular registration which enables you to amend or discharge this registration, and
  • a verification statement containing the details of the registration.

You may also be required to send a notice of the verification statement to the grantor in the registration under the PPS Act.

Existing registrations are registrations that have been either:
