How do we protect the integrity of PPSR data?

Maintaining the integrity of PPSR data is critical to acquitting our responsibilities under the PPS Act and to meet the expectations of stakeholders. 

In my last blog post, I spoke about the data that’s collected on the PPSR and how that data, when used in aggregate, can add to our understanding of the performance of the wider economy. In this post I want to touch on some of the measures we have in place to protect that data and ensure its integrity.
 
The nature and volume of the data contained on the PPSR — and the complexities of hosting and maintaining an online register, requires a considered approach to preserve the integrity and security of the data.

We have a range of measures in place to protect that data and ensure its integrity. These include:

  • system design features to support the accuracy of information entered on the register
  • administration of the Amendment Demand process to help ensure each registration is an accurate record of what’s been agreed between the parties
  • a robust mechanism for dealing with complaints about registrations and where appropriate, including through referral of matters to our Regulation and Enforcement division for investigation
  • exercising the powers available to the Registrar to remove data and / or end the effect of a registration, where appropriate
  • a range of security measures that are proportionate to the importance of the data to the Australian economy.

Collaboration with stakeholders and users is integral to supporting the integrity and availability of the PPSR.
