PPSR searches

There are a number of set ways that you can search information on the register:

  • Serial number
  • Individual grantor
  • Organisational grantor
  • PPSR registration number
  • Point-in-time search
  • Ordinal Search

Individual grantor

A search by individual grantor, using the grantor’s given name, family name and date of birth, will search for any registrations over the grantor’s personal property.

  • A grantor is generally the debtor, buyer, lessee or customer who offers the collateral as security.

When planning to provide finance, you may conduct an individual grantor search to ensure there are no existing security interests registered against the individual.

Note: Users must have an authorised purpose to conduct an individual grantor search under section 172 of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth).

Organisational grantor

Users may conduct an organisation grantor search

  •  An organisation grantor is a body corporate, partnership, trustee of a trust or body politic.

The identifying information used to conduct the search will be different depending on the type of organisation. The organisation identifier may be its:

  • Australian Registered Scheme Number (ARSN)
  • Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN)
  • Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Organisation name.

PPSR registration number

Users may search the PPSR using the relevant PPSR registration number.

  • A PPSR registration number is a unique 15-digit number assigned when the registration is initially created.

Other searches

The PPSR also allows an ordinal search or a point in time search.

  • An ordinal search allows you to compare two registration events (such as amendment or discharge of a registration).
  • A point-in-time search enables a search of the PPSR to identify registrations that were current at an earlier date and time. A point-in-time search can be requested by contacting the National Service Centre.
